On Saturday, September 19, 2009, Ward One Councilmember Jim Graham will symbolically designate V Street NW, from 13th Street to 14th Street NW, as “Langston Hughes Way”.

To celebrate this momentous occasion and the rich history of the U Street corridor, The Greater U Street Historic Foundation is planning a parade and area-wide festival.

The Greater U Street Parade & Festival will commence with a parade beginning at 11:00am. The parade will include: local high school and college marching bands, youth organizations, politicians, celebrities, and retail establishments along the U Street corridor.

Immediately following the parade, the press announcement and street designation to “Langston Hughes Way” will commence and will kick-off the festival. The festival will include vendors, primarily from the U Street corridor, along with children’s activities and live entertainment.
