West Indian American Day Parade & Carnival celebrates In New York City

This year, the West Indian American Day Parade & Carnival celebrates its 42nd anniversary as it continues to enjoy the distinction of being New York City’s biggest cultural festivals by far.

As in the past, count on crowds to be waving flags from TrinidadBarbadosGrenada and other Caribbean nations in a joyful expression of ethnic heritage & cultural pride.

DC Guardian Angels will leave from 10th and H street at 7am to ride the Bolt Bus to New York City

We will meet the NYC Guardian Angels on 33rd and 7th ave

U Street Parade & Festival

On Saturday, September 19, 2009, Ward One Councilmember Jim Graham will symbolically designate V Street NW, from 13th Street to 14th Street NW, as “Langston Hughes Way”. 

To celebrate this momentous occasion and the rich history of the U Street corridor, The Greater U Street Historic Foundation is planning a parade and area-wide festival. 

The Greater U Street Parade & Festival will commence with a parade beginning at 11:00am. The parade will include: local high school and college marching bands, youth organizations, politicians, celebrities, and retail establishments along the U Street corridor. 

Immediately following the parade, the press announcement and street designation to “Langston Hughes Way” will commence and will kick-off the festival. The festival will include vendors, primarily from the U Street corridor, along with children’s activities and live entertainment.

Saturday features the official Opening Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast, all-day themed pavilions which showcase celebrities, prominent experts, performing artists and product promotions. Saturday closes with an evening R&B concert on the National Mall. Sunday features all-day themed pavilions and closes with an evening gospel concert on the National Mall.

The expanded Kid’s Fair has games, interactive science exhibits (in English & Spanish) clowns, and the Chinese Lion Dancers. “Arts on Belmont,” a shaded residential block full of original artisans.
