February 20, 2011 Homicide in the 3000 block of Sherman Avenue, NW
Yesterday, 23-year-old Julius Johnson of Washington, DC was charged with Murder One while armed in the 2005 homicide of James Cousart, who was fatally shot in the 1400 block of First Street, NW, on August 25, 2005.
On August 25, 2005, at approximately 1:35 am, members of the Fifth District responded to the 1400 block of First Street, NW, for the report of a shooting in front of that location. Upon arriving on the scene, Mr. Cousart was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead. His remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was from multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was Homicide.
The investigation led to an arrest warrant being issued by a DC Superior Court Judge on December 18, 2007, charging Julius Johnson with Felony Murder While Armed. On May 24, 2010, the defendant was apprehended and charged with Murder One While Armed at the Department’s Major Case/Cold Case Office.
Also on Monday, 46-year-old John Fitzgerald of Northeast, DC was arrested at his home and charged with Murder Two pursuant to an arrest warrant in connection with the 1997 homicide of 38-year-old Deborah McKinney.
On Wednesday, November 26, 1997, at approximately 8 am, a security guard found an unconscious female in the basement of a building in the 900 block of M Street, NW. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded, but could find no signs consistent with life. The victim was subsequently pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed that the manner of death was ruled a Homicide by asphyxiation.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a triple shooting that resulted in a fatality.
On Saturday, February 19, 2011, at approximately 7 pm, units from the Third District were dispatched to Sherman Avenue and Columbia Road NW, to investigate the sounds of gunshots. Upon their arrival, three gunshot victims were located. A female victim was located in front of a residence in the 3000 block of Sherman Avenue, NW. Two adult male victims were located in the 700 block of Harvard Street, NW. Personnel from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported all three victims to local hospitals.
The female victim succumbed to her injuries and was later pronounced dead. Her remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending an autopsy. The decedent has been identified as 18-year-old Lucki Nancy Pannell of the 3000 block of Sherman Avenue, NW.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that all three victims were shot in the 3000 block of Sherman Avenue, NW. The two male surviving victims ran from the scene to the 700 block of Harvard Street, NW.

February 18, 2011 Homicide in the 2300 Block of 14th Street, NEDetectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 2300 block of 14th Street, NE.
On Thursday, February 17, 2011, shortly after 12:00 pm, units from the Fifth District responded to the 2300 block of 14th Street, NE for the report of an unconscious male. Upon their arrival they were met by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel who directed them to an individual who was found inside of the location suffering from gunshot wounds. It was determined by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel that the victim did not show any signs consistent with life, and was subsequently pronounced dead. The victims’ remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pending autopsy.
The victim has been identified as 65-year-old Clarence Wilson of Northeast, DC.

February 17, 2011 Arrest Made in Sexual AssaultDetectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth Investigations Division announced today that an arrest has been made in a sexual assault that occurred on December 28, 2010, in the 6600 block of 13th Street, NW.

members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 21-year-old Stephen Leroy Wise of Northwest, DC pursuant to a DC Superior Court Arrest Warrant for First Degree Sexual Assault while Armed. He was located in the 3500 block of 22nd Street SE.
